Used this in the Alaska Range and I had to restart once to get signal but after I figured out how to make it work, it was fast and reliable. Alaska approved.

This was perfect to keep my family and fiance updated on my location and to message from. The messaging worked great.

I use this product almost daily. I work offshore and I can keep in touch with my family and friends very easily. I crossed the Pacific Ocean and had communication about 98% of the time. The only "dead-spots" lasted maybe 8-12hrs during the transit. I highly recommend the Garmin In-Reach to anybody that operates out side of cell phone service

It does what it’s supposed to but without the Earthmate app it’s a nightmare. Sending texts thru the screen is like programming your cable tv box! Earthmate app lets you pair your phone to bypass all of that.

There are no maps in it. You must have a map on your phone and use the GPS to see where you are on that map on your phone. Unfortunately I did not discover this until it was too late to return it.
