Metroid: Other M bietet beeindruckende Grafik und flüssige Animationen für die Wii, mit einer einzigartigen Kombination aus 2D- und 3D-Gameplay und schnellem Action-Tempo. Die Bosskämpfe und Finishing-Moves sind spektakulär, und die einfache Steuerung macht das Spiel zugänglich. Allerdings wird das Spielerlebnis häufig durch lange Zwischensequenzen und eine nicht immer überzeugende Story unterbrochen. Das Spiel ist recht linear, was wenig Raum für Erkundung lässt, und der Wechsel zwischen den Perspektiven wirkt manchmal umständlich. Die Kämpfe sind zudem repetitiv und bieten nicht die Tiefe, die Fans früherer Metroid-Spiele erwarten. Für Action- und Grafikfans ist es interessant, aber klassische Metroid-Erkundung kommt zu kurz.

Das unkonventionellste Spiel seit langer Zeit bescherte mir ein Wechselbad der Gefühle: Vieles nervte mich, erst im letzten Drittel hatte ich den Dreh raus und damit Spaß am Spiel. Dieses fühlt sich an wie ein Remix, der wie so oft an das Original nicht heranreicht, aber interessante Interpretationen bekannter Elemente bietet. Der weitgehende Verzicht auf das Entdecken der Welt enttäuscht, einige pfiffige Einfälle besonders gegen Ende überraschen sowohl hinsichtlich der Präsentation als auch spielerisch. Wahnsinnig machten mich Abschnitte, in denen ich Samus aus der Schulteransicht folge und quälend langsam ohne Zielvorgabe durch Gänge schlingere. Auch rare Scan-Aufgaben ließen mich im Regen stehen. Ich begrüße den Mut der Entwickler, diverse schlecht durchdachte Designentscheidungen vergällen mir aber die Freude am Spiel.

Let's turn Samus into someone soft and weak willed with daddy issues and then keep angling the camera on her butt. Not to mention the voice acting and writing outside of that is terrible. Great job. Hoping they remove this from continuity and fix her character. Gameplay is serviceable.

This is a mysogynistic mess. It's worth having in your game library as an example of how not to craft a story showing the inner struggles of a strong female protagonist. As a game, it's not bad, but it's narrative problems are too big and the gameplay isn't great enough to turn your brain off and just have fun with it.

I like the game play personally, but the portrayal of Samus was done entirely in vain and seriously could have been done better.
