The GOAT!

Still the best cycling computer available. It doesn't have the new screen or the speaker of the 850, but the battery life if far superior, and for daily use well worth the trade off and cost savings. As of now Garmin is still supporting the 840 with new sales and updates. I much prefer the touch screen over the 5xx series, making this the one of the best cycling computers available.

Worst Consumer Product

The interface is so confusing you can never find a setting twice in a row, it loses connection with your phone, it takes forever to download videos, and you have to create a Wi-Fi network between the device and your phone, it’s incessantly popping up alerts and making noises there’s no way to silence them, you can’t just enjoy your ride without it being incredibly invasive.

Great tool and a fun toy

I absolutely love this head unit! I am very glad I got the touch screen, it is very easy to navigate through the menus using this feature. I believe it would be much more difficult to use without a touch screen. I have had no visibility issues, even in full sun, my backlight is set to automatic. It does everything I need and gives me lots extra to play with, great tool and a fun toy.

Huge upgrade

The difference between my Edge Explore to the 840 is huge. Battery life, functionality, displays, accuracy are all 4X improvements. Something that seems trivial is the rear charging port that will easily allow on the bike recharging - however now I’m not sure I will need it. I stayed with the touch screen and that is also much more responsive. These also pair with my Meta glasses, which is nice
