Amazon has done a lot right with the top-end Scribe – the first with a colour display. This is the most refined Kindle hardware since the Oasis, and there’s no doubt that having a colour screen is more useful here than on a smaller reader. Yet, a few stumbles along the way stop this from being either the best Kindle or the best e-ink tablet.

It wants to be your indispensable digital diary, but it will test your Kindle loyalty, too.

Amazon's 2025 Kindle Scribe ereader features a larger 11-inch screen and a more streamlined design than its predecessor, but it doesn't offer much else new to justify its higher price.

This is a great device for a certain kind of notetaker. Otherwise, a regular e-reader or tablet will do.

The Amazon Kindle Scribe Colorsoft's large color E Ink display is nice for taking notes and reading comics, but it ultimately falls short of traditional tablets that offer brighter screens and more power for a lower price.
